stones grind under rubber soles
eyes bore holes
white knights prowl

waiting,
muscles twitch wet beneath leather
calculating character
squint at probability
battle urges
decide.

redundant self examination
not to fast,
not to slow,
shoulders down
chin rising
show...no....fear.

nodding heads
whole this night
cracked the next,
shimmy home
elbow imprints top the knees
straining.

bad mood climbing
trifling fingers
gripping,
seething,
for a spark...
to become the fire.
