Allyson Jenkinson Biography

About the technicalities of writing poetry..I know nothing. My heart tells my mind and I write it down. Poetic thoughts come to me, when I least expect it. I am not stuck on one topic and write about my life, my faith, my heart, my joys and my worries. They're not perfect poems...but they're mine!)

The Stallion Wild And Free

I've roamed six summers with this band.
Never been touched by a humans hand.
There's never been anything for me to fear
during the carefree days that I've wandered here.
There are no enemies to make me flee.
My life is lived...wild and free!

Chestnut hair shining under the midday sun.
Mane and tail flow like water as I run.
The sky above, the earth under my feet
and sweet plentiful grasses for me to eat.
Sipping pure water from streams and ponds.
I kick up my heels among the fern fronds.

Strong of body and strong of mind.
Protector, father and mate of my kind.
My life is lived in the way of the horse.
I don't have feelings like hate or remorse.
I submit to none; they submit to me!
My days are spent running...wild and free!

Simple are the pleasures of my life.
Rarely are there times of trouble and strife.
Once in a while a brave young colt might
try and prove himself in a heated fight.
One day I'll know the sting of defeat
but right now I'm in my prime and hard to beat.

I race on swift, sure feet and my nostrils flare
as I breathe in the sweet scent of mountain air.
Through the valleys and along the ridges I run.
The only thing I feel on my back is the sun.
For no man shall ever catch and tame me.
My life is lived...wild and free!
