Once

I once lost love and pined;
As if life itself was lost.
Discord, discard
Happiness forlorn
Grey and gloom and shade.
Hands dug deep and shoulders hunched
A brittle winter set.
Hands dug deep.

And yet one dawn a glimmer crept,
Unspoken
Slow but sure
Steady but true
And wove itself
Between me and you
