Tempestuous Tides

Tempestuous tides
Babe, Don't look to my eyes
'cause you'll see they're bloodshot red

Feet tied to the bottom
With my back to the waves
Don't know if I'll wind up dead

Cause a big waves a'coming
I can feel its swell
Knock my knees back on themselves
Is this really living?
Don't know what I'm feelin
But I know this feeling well

Tempestuous tides
Don't look to my eyes
Caus you'll see the looming dread

Feet tied to the bottom
With my back to the waves
Maybe I'm already dead

Cause that big wave, it hit me
Knocked the breath from my lungs
And Shook my brain 'round in its cage,
Taste the blood on my lips
What's the point of all this?
My jaw clenched
both in pain and in rage

Is this really living?
Don't know what I'm feelin
But this feeling I know, too well
Is this really living?
Don't know what I'm feelin
But my mind thinks I'm in hell.

I gave in,
I stopped thrashing
Underwater - eyes peered
I see the ropes that bound fast
I tore at the bindings til my fingernails bled
Broke the shackles, I'm free at last

But I'd tread for so long
I forgot how to stand
Though my legs -
they were fine and were strong,
But by brain it keep looping
Urging me to swim
And keep songing that old sailors song -

It used to be frightening
But now the depths were my home
I'd come accustomed to time spent alone
So that's where I stay
Feeling cold, over-tired
But Free thinking, you see
Although I'm still swimming alone
