The Call Of The Rails

The roaring train sped through the night,
It's engine pulling fifty cars or more
With all its churning might.

It mastered curves and straightaways
Each steeping grade it climbed,
Triumphantly rolling on and on
It had to be on time!

The cars were filled with many things
Though I didn't know what they were
but I knew they were going somewhere afar
As I listened to the wheels purr.

I wished I had been on that train
For the mystery was great,
But I knew it wouldn't stop for me,
That might have made it late.
