Catherine Novick Poems

When you fall onto concrete, what do you feel?
I feel the blinding, white pain piercing my skin.
I feel the burning trickle of blood spreading on my knees.
...

Imagination is a flower with lots of petals.
Imagination has a different perfume every time you use it.
Imagination is a long strand of pearls.
Imagination whispers in my ears.
...

Spring irises and french lilacs bloom in large fields.
Orchid roses rise in hearts out of my mind when I think of love.

My purple heart finds great joy in all things purple.
...

Candles and roses stand around while a cheerful couple dances, united.
They tire and sit down to rest, but the man falls to his knees.
He begs for marriage, and the woman is dumbfounded.
Though she is surprised, the woman nods 'yes' with a smiling face.

What Do You Feel?

When you fall onto concrete, what do you feel?
I feel the blinding, white pain piercing my skin.
I feel the burning trickle of blood spreading on my knees.

When you get a present on your birthday, what do you feel?
I feel a happy, tingly feeling.
I feel like a bird, soaring through the sky, so happy and carefree.

When you hear bad gossip about yourself, what do you feel?
I feel red-hot anger, building up inside, wanting to scream so loud.
I feel the urge to punch someone, hard.

When you kiss someone, what do you feel?
I feel comforted, like that kiss confirmed my warmth and safety.
I feel in the right place, with the right people.
