A lonely tear keeps time,
As it slowly lowers itself, afraid to slip and fall and die.
Sadness crawls into the day
And creeps deep into the night
Like a web of perfection spinning failure with might.
Life trampled by fear,
nothing new dare appear;
Sleep divorced by the night
weds to the coming day,
While pessimism painfully bows its large and heavy head.
Lord what is this thing called depression?
Some brothers in church say, 'move on! '
Some sisters say, 'stand firm! '
How can loneliness prevail in the midst of a crowded church?
How can faith in the God of all creation suddenly vanish,
And a mountain of doubt so suddenly appear?
How can helplessness and hopelessness
Replace the heart that you once held so near?
Attend to me, do not forsake!
Abate this pain and lift it away.
Let sadness skip and smile and play.
Let tears of hope
Have dreams today.
That maybe, just maybe
tears of joy may be born this day.
