what is it
and how do you know?
is it genuine
or placebo?

it is
listening to that song
and thinking of her
while she's lying right next to you

it is
spending your last dime on her
because she's too poor
and doesn't have the money to eat

it is
waking up
knowing she's cold
getting up and putting a blanket over her

it is
watching the ambulance take her away
hiding every emotion so it doesn't show on your face
and breaking down when you're all alone

it is
knowing she's amazing, too good to be true
knowing that you'll hurt her
so you let her go
as it breaks your heart in two

it is
clutching her in your arms
as the blood and color come back to her face
and crying right then and there
because you almost lost her

it is
bottling a feeling for two years
when you knew she didn't feel the same
you stayed strong and became her best friend

it is
still loving her
even after a year and a half
of her not being yours

it is
love
the most painful
and complete feeling of ecstasy
