Swim Good

In the beginning both loved the other
Now he's holding the hand of another
We were all in, and in deep
Now he's not mine to keep
Life sure comes with highs and lows
Harsh realities and heavy blows
Happiness and bouts of pain
Sunny skies but always a chance of rain
Now a downpour is a flood
Keep treading the tears, the heartache, the blood
Dive into the ocean
Full of loss and love and buried emotion
Sink, or swim hard and swim good
Swim like mamma said you could
Don't tell me it's too late
That were over and that's our fate
I'm swimming good now don't you see?
I'll be all you ever wanted me to be
And more and more and more and more
As long as you're mine to keep and to adore
So many mistakes that I made
I should have seen that your love would fade
But pain ignites change
When hearts need to be rearranged
A necessary evil so I don't stay the same
And from it all the lessons I've gained
Thank you for helping me grow
And please know that I love you so
Until you're mine to hold again
I'll be here waiting on my best friend
