My grandfather My grandfather was Albert Toomey, he was a great person to know and hang out with He was called “Bert” and he was truly loved by family and friends His smile would make the stars in heaven enraged with jealousy since it was brighter than them He was 6’2” and very kind He was in the army reserves but never went to fight He was a pitcher in the minor and major leagues and could pitch like a loaded gun When he was in the minor leagues he played for the Plainview Ponies His foes would cower in fear as he took to the mound with his eyes of steel His life ended in 2000 when I was only 3 And though I barely knew him; his figure,6’2” with a tan and baseball glove will forever be in my mind If someone were lucky enough to meet him they would laugh at his jokes and feel comfortable in his presence And I will always consider myself lucky to know him for the short time I did Christian Chavez
