He jumps
First step
What a shocker

Clinching fists
Muscles tight
Can't breathe

And then,
First bunker alert

Rushing and Rushing
Some more heaving

The soldier tripped
Doomed
Three foot deep pit

The gunman kept firing
Snarling

Heathen from Hell

BOOM! !
Bigger than any sound ever heard
Smoke
Dust
Blood
Cries from Nazi soldiers
Finished

The lonely American soldier stood our of his pit
An air strike had been called
Into the radio, he spoke,
