The New World

Writing was once an event,
midnight maraudings of exploration
when I felt like Columbus sailing to the new world,
with land in view ahead of me.

Writing once was romantic
in the true sense of the word,
When I lay on my bed silent as-

Words scribbled by forbidden light
were meaning in their weakness, were truth
raw and untamed.

The scene morphs... the new world?
It doesn't feel all that new.
Theres people here, already and
in my depths I realize
the new world wasn't what it promised.
I never truely reached it.
It was a candle that burnt out too soon.

Can('t) it ever be the same...

Back where I began, secretive,
but its false, this time, there's an absence
like first Christmas without Santa Claus,
A void I cant avoid.
Theres no land on the horizon anymore
and trying to spot it is futile,
futile because it's gone and forever so,
Eloped with the boy who wrote for a reason
who now exists merely as memory.
