Who really was this revered icon
The one that the world holds in awe
He was a man nothing more, nothing less
That the South Africans now bless

Sitting on the bench the old soldier sighs
Thinking about the good old times, he pines
From his toothless mouth the empty pipe dangles
Praying for some miracle from the heavenly angels

Tribute To Mandela

Who really was this revered icon
The one that the world holds in awe
He was a man nothing more, nothing less
That the South Africans now bless

He was held in prison for many years
For sins committed in the eyes of some
His action were hailed as heroic and just
In the mind of the downtrodden one

His action were at first that of a terrorist
With age he became mellow and wise
Reconciliation is the only sensible path
It is no point being hostile he did realise

He begun building bridges with vigour
In spite his advancing years he persevered
With great wisdom, foresight he managed
To unite the Nation into one Rainbow land

Now that he is gone the world wonders
What his followers will make of these
The legacy he left behind will they destroy
Or let everyone flourish and live in peace.
