I have always had the feeling
That I would meet the love of my life
In a bookstore-
She would come up behind me

Two tomatoes sit on the counter next to me
One has an indention
Earlier, I threw one away that had become rotten

David Jason Robinson Biography

I live in Atlanta, Georgia- in the city, not the 'burbs. Somehow I have over 600 books in my one-bedroom apartment and it actually is neat. I usually read 3 or 4 books at once- always at least one volume of poetry. I am fortunate enough to live in an area of town with several (increasingly rare) indie bookshops and coffeehouses where there are frequent signings and readings. Our public library system is pretty decent, too. I attended The University of Georgia in Athens and Georgia State University in Atlanta.)

The New Moon Cafe

clad in ray bans
jean shorts and backpack
iPod adorned I arrive
at The New Moon Café
my town's hipster dive
at the intersection of
Richland and Laurens
world music blaring
the coffee an organic blend
I see a bumper sticker
it says Tybee Island bomb squad
the free speech zone where
old newspapers go to die
and the wall is covered
with signs from every
liberal democratic candidate
the counter guy has on
a faux event staff t-shirt
and the cook looks
strikingly like Che Guevara
just lacking beret and AK-47
the hardwood floors
hold antique furniture
the paintings say Jeffrey Hair
and North Aiken Elementary
the tea sweet and anti-sweet
I sit and write on this
ninety-six degree day
very deep in Carolina
and all is justified
when I see the sign:
break the chains-
shop independent stores
and it all finally makes sense
