Climbing

With clean fists and straight eyes
I climb, face against the wind
stealing life from the mountain
alone above a ruthless sunset
my ears burn, sharp to your voice
my knees to the pitted grip
lessons hid in every tilt and rock.

I seek resilience, to combat
this greatest nemesis, myself
so, when I receive the folding twilight
I may weave dreams for my resurrection
penetrating your firmament
unafraid, essential in your light
purified... animate.
