If Ever A Man.

Tis ever a man,
walked amidst men.
Kind and gentle,
ever ready to listen.
Who kept his head,
when others' lost theirs.
Gracious to all,
wise counsel when he lead.
To god he bowed,
yet piety he denied,
to others' beliefs,
'good prayer' he cried.
Full of knowledge,
he taught as he lived.
Never a harsh word,
in harmony he believed.
One strained to hear him loud,
always jolly with others about.
Friends all, loved to share,
his company, his warm lair.
Any sport he loved to cheer,
cricket to him so dear.
Tis gone a dear man,
lost his health and fitness
to malignant illness.
We stand aside, teary eyes
his chariot departs, amid goodbyes.
All good men are hailed in the end,
stand salute, one more to attend.
