Hearts In Half

Cordial, kind, yet self-reserved,
Her likeness cannot be duplicated.
Since past, right now, for yet to be,
She has drifted in my mind,
Preserved.

Were she a flavor to the tongue,
Sweetened as a sugary sensation,
I'd fasten my lips with thread,
As tastes fade away too soon, too
Young.

With passion like pens to paper,
And ink drawn from transparent nectar,
So I'll exclaim with truth and pride:
All talk of love is only a
Whisper!

Our friendship doomed love to shame,
For half-hearts are more devoted than whole.
We had laughs and joy and cheer,
Though I regret never knowing her
Name.
