Bittersweet Love

Was there ever a time when he played fair?
She used to think so;
Used to think so.

Ever wonder about these thorns?
They keep him away; keep him away.
He pulled her head under while she struggled for a breath
His 'happily ever after' suffocated her to death!

Shadows in the dark days blending back to back
Darkness fades against the light,
Another night has passed

Before the roses lost their fragrance,
There was a time of ease,
Of magnificent scents free and unhindered
Drifting among the breeze.

But tragedy struck proving fatal over time
As his schemes inclined toward a crime.
In pursuit of his own selfish interest designing his own perfect rose,
The sweet aroma of her soul was abandoned; the scent now hides from the nose.

The love that he offers comes with a price
If you should meet please take my advice
Turn away quickly! Avoid getting burned
For he will take and give nothing in return.

As morning rises swift to greet her, a new day dawns,
Walking towards the horizon glancing back she smiles
No longer his pawn.

Was there ever a time when he played fair?
She used to think so;
Used to think so.

Ever wonder about these thorns?
They keep him away;
Keep him away.
