My Castle Drowned

(A reflection of a child standing on the beach after losing his parents. This was written after the Tsunami had struck the southern coastal region of India in 2005)

Castles we mounted together all eve
Soaked my feet, she teased me wet
Zephyr, the sunset and sea birds all
“Earth” her sobriquet she’s home to all.

Chaste no more and limbs severed
Shook with grief she trembled in fear
Fate we brought to her these days
Cold we left her arms to stray.

Tears rolled out, pains galore
Poured it flowed, out of the brim
Came and left in all one wink ...
