Your death began a month ago
and from the first day
children played in the park like always
and your room was rented
to a big and wild workman
and everything seems the same on the streets
even though your face grows ever paler in recollection.
When darkness surrounds me at night
I concentrate in anguish on reviving you
Closing my eyes and contracting my fists I reconstruct your face
but you just float at the end of a garden lit by the moon
and it is all in vain because you don't say a single word
and your semblance quivers and vanishes
like when we touch the landscapes
reflected on still water.
People work
Talk
pass by my side
and their eyes slide over me indifferently.
I think they are cruel
but then I remember they didn't know you
they don't know I'm the bearer of dreadful news
and even if they had known you and loved you
how could they do anything other than live their lives?
Our world begins young
our world only loves
the dead who have given more life to it.
Because of this you will not escape oblivion
because of this it is so difficult to hold onto you
because of this it is so easy
to fill the void you left behind.
Your life was innocent
And your death does not shake.
It is only a smile that fog erases little by little
a melodious echo lost in dark corridors
where we cannot follow you.

Why write small verses
when the world is so vast
and the uproar of cities drowns out the music?
In this battle of giants
one needs long-range arms.
In this duel to the death
songs enrapture or lull to sleep.
The blood of generations, of peoples
is at stake
and a world into which infinite mankind
can be born.
Too much is at stake
to risk it all for the chance of words.
It is time to glorify other men and other deeds
It is time to look for situations
where words are necessary
and to cohabit with those
for whom the word is liberation.
Only words that endanger
the power of tyrants and the gods
are worthy of being pronounced or written.

Nothing belongs to us
Everything is loaned to us to use as we see fit.
Future generations will live in our house
and the bread we eat is kneaded with blood.
We appear gratuitously in the world
coming from a bottomless darkness.
Existence is a moment of light given to us
and one day we shall go, naked and solitary,
how should we speak then about exclusive rights?
How should we kill in the name of Yours and Mine?

Poor people cut bread with thick hands
scrupulously
into thin slices.
During holidays they visit cemeteries
fairs packed with people where they buy nothing
abandoned parks or somber churches.
Poor people roam about like dogs
they drown heavily at the bottom of rivers
roar in the cellars of immense factories
and in their grim eyes there is a hidden fire
and in their muscles grows a sleeping demon.

laborando rezaban y gorjeando esperaban

I come from a childhood glorified by suns
and gold monstrances that made one dream
about a flowering heaven of virgins and angels
too remote to truly awaken desire.
I come from fresh and auroral mountains
protecting a river in their deep folds
— where an incomprehensible trip with no return is sung —
and nourishes woods in which the voice
of a child lost forever still drifts.
I come from conventual and somber houses
where chaste women retired from the world
prayed while they worked and warbling expected
to live in peace with heaven as a prize
for their trifling struggles and domestic cares.
Their sedative voices still resound
softening nightmares with humble words.
In that place men became poor with dignity
spoke ill of the political adversary and the Holy Trinity.
I dreamt of the far-off existence of the dead
clinging to the grate of a white cemetery
in full moon nights amongst the pines.
I believed in the relationship between gods and animals
between dead mothers and whispering trees.
I wanted to remain faithful to my childhood games
and to evade the duties of the caged adult
when nakedly exploring the labyrinth of the world
risking getting lost so I could find myself.
Because an extreme contradiction was my lot
it was up to me to contemplate what I loved from afar
and to suffer what I hated inside
and to fly up very high to know the abyss
and to plunge into the mud to catch a glimpse of the heights.
