As I Watch The Poppies

As I watch the poppies gently sway
I think of childhoods snatched away
Taken by some unknown hand
And buried deep in foriegn land

As I watch the poppies stretch out of the mud
Watered by years of innocent blood
I think of the fear in all of our souls
Of lessons unlearned and stories untold

As I watch the poppies stand resoloute
It seems to me there's no fitting tribute
No medal too high, no speech too grand
To match the sacrifice for freedom and land

As I watch the poppies cling to lapels
It seems at remembrance we seek to excel
But mistakes are made again and again
And upon these mistakes, remembrance depends
