When I first met him,
I wasn't much impressed.
I was a little girl, quiet and prim.
He was a little boy full of fun and zest.
This boy, however, was more then one could see.
His heart was of gold,
His demeanor most friendly,
His nature warm through life's cold.
As a little girl I noticed things small.
How he helped his sister,
or was kind to a doll.
My first impression began to blister.
The little boy's heart unvield more;
Compassion, consideration, kindness.
Growing in strength and gusto sure,
And who the boy was shown into my blindness.
Each day that passed I grew more fond of him,
Until I loved the boy with the heart of gold.
And I will love him more each day with no brim,
For he is more impressive for each year he holds.
