In Your Own Hands

Mum and Dad are always on my back
tellin' me to get my life on track
expecting me to be the brightest kid
tellin me that this is how life is

But what if i dont want their stupid advice
and i just want the chance to be myself
want to make my own decisions in life
theyre tryna turn me into somethin else

School, it can be tough
yer sure it has its ups and downs
but i manage to move on
dont they understand im growing up

Im not my daddy's little girl anymore
Or my mothers either
but the dont seem to realise
and all they do is smother

I have seven younger brothers and sisters
i wonder if they feel the same
but i suppose most are only youngens
and wouldnt understand the pain.

The pressure from your parents
The pressure fomr your friends
I'll tell you its hard to deal with
to make it to the end

I have my inspirations
and my head is on my shoulders
But they dont ever listen
to what i have to offer

I will make my decisions
and, yeah sure they can help guide me
but dont push me to the extent
that i am going crazy

my life belongs to me
not anybody else
i think they tend to forget
they have their own themselves

I am thankful for what they gave me
and forever i will be
My mother and my father have given me everything
i could ever need

but let your little girl grow up
she is old enough to understand
that the power of a person
Is all in their own hands.
