From sunrise to sunset our lives travel on
Through the weeks and the months and the years.
From mornings to evenings we live out our days
Filled with love and laughter... with heartaches and tears.
...
My constant companions,
My colleagues and friends,
My playmates and the tools of my trade.
They dance in my dreams
...
A lawn of fresh green clover
Surrounding me and you...
Waving in a summer breeze
Beneath a sky of blue.

Elizabeth Lipiec Zerbst (Betty to friends and family) was raised along with her 5 brothers and two sisters, on their family's dairy farm in Herkimer County. Betty has loved animals all her life and began drawing them as a young girl. She discovered in junior high school, that she also has a natural talent for writing rhyming poetry. She graduated from Little Falls in 1968, and has lived in her country home in the Town of Stratford since 1987. She continued drawing animals and writing poetry as an adult. Her poetry is not intense or complicated, but just her every-day thoughts, that happen to come out of her head and into print as rhymes. Once she became a grandmother, it only seemed natural to combine these creative parts of herself and write and illustrate rhyming animal stories for children. She decided to put her many years of poetry, as well as some reflective memories from her life (in prose form) into several collections and publish them as well. She created ELIPZER PUBLISHING to self-publish her books. To date she has 30 published books. She enjoys the entire process of writing and formatting her creations. Each of her ELIPZER BOOKS is a little part of the person she is, that she feels compelled to share with other people, from one to one hundred and one. Betty enjoys doing a handful of craft fairs each summer, where she can meet the shoppers as well as offer her books for sale.)
Before Sunset
From sunrise to sunset our lives travel on
Through the weeks and the months and the years.
From mornings to evenings we live out our days
Filled with love and laughter... with heartaches and tears.
We must cherish each moment we are blessed to encounter
And tuck each precious memory safely away.
For time marches on... and these moments are gone...
And we can never get back our yesterday.
From sunrise to sunset the days come and go
With a bright, new day beyond every bend.
Hug your child... write a poem... plant a tree... sing a song...
Do a kind deed... make a new friend.
Read a book... ride a horse... paint a picture... teach a child...
Make the best of each day every year.
We must leave lasting memories that will live when we're gone
So that people will be glad that we were here.
From each sunrise to each sunset is all that we have...
And we should never take more than we give.
So be sure, every day, to do your best before sunset...
To make the most of the life that you live.
