Eric Beach, born 1947, is a New Zealand and Australian poet, playwright, and short story writer.


Born in New Zealand, Beach has lived in Tasmania and in Victoria since 1972. He is active in the Australian Performance Poetry scene, performing at workshops, readings and events around Australia.

Eric Beach is one of Australia's most unusual and accessible poets. His work has been performed all over the country, at the Pram Factory and the Opera House, on trams and ferries, sung in jazz festivals, and writ large on billboards in railway stations. you create quite a stir
you work a room
like a mink works a fur
when I said I wouldn't go out with taller women
now my skull's a fringe festival
I hoped you'd demur
eyes of blue,blonde of hair
we'd make a good pair
I'd stand on a chair
I'd take you anywhere
you want to go
you'd look good in flares
you could have a modelling career
just give us that stare
let me show how much I care
I'll buy you underwear
with bits missing here & there
