High above the rest of the world,
Treasured as the most precious jewel;
Packaged joy is thrust upon me,
Comfortably cushioned from a predictable fall.
...
The Caged Bird
High above the rest of the world,
Treasured as the most precious jewel;
Packaged joy is thrust upon me,
Comfortably cushioned from a predictable fall.
Just as a priceless diamond is hidden away,
I’m being veiled from my fellow creatures;
But a diamond doesn’t have a heart and mind,
Unlike me with bottled up emotions.
When I’m brought in the open, but still behind bars,
I see my fellow beings fluttering about,
True, they have to work hard and hunt for their daily bread,
But they have the most wonderful gift I yearn for.
To live today as if it is the last day,
To fly as high and wide as can reach,
To laugh and scream on top of the lungs,
To taste the sweets of freedom to the core.
No matter how much my master loves me,
No matter how much he takes care of me,
No matter how he showcases me to everyone else,
I feel the void in my soul.
I can only see the part of the world he prefers to show me,
I yearn to get acquainted with the beauties of nature shut-out from me,
I can only watch my soaring friends from a distance,
But can never get close enough to blend with them.
Alas, this is my destiny,
Life on this world is short,
I pray that I get all that I have missed here,
If God wills, in the Hereafter.
