Soldier

Into the trench, moments of fear,
sweating, calling, terrified sprawling
pulling tangled roots of trees,
shredding bleeding hearts do plead
darkness silence echo still,
only my heart thumps, fill

blood, red, crimson tears,
fills my head,
the sound of my voice, dead, dead

suffocating, wiping, hand to heart
crimson colors again to start
flow, down, around my feet
sticky wet, about to weep

booming, thunderous, screeching; heat
the smell of acid, blood; pleading weep
fingers lightly touch blood soaked sand
clutching, whispering, 'This land, this land'
