Firoz Ahmed Ebrahim Poems

born free
like an eagle soaring in the sky
the nest always in sight
unlike a collared falcon bound to it's keeper
...

this senselessness
left her wasted
left me wanting
every tear she shed
...

you can
barricade the border with barbed wire
you cannot
stop the rain from falling
...

lying on a distant windswept hilltop
far away from the brazen carpetbaggers
with their colgate smiles
slinking on the fringes of the kitchen cabinet
...

the soul
like an empty seed
impotent
sucked sterile

The Girl Child

born free
like an eagle soaring in the sky
the nest always in sight
unlike a collared falcon bound to it's keeper
patronised only when submissive
spontaneity stifled to serve
was she born
to have her wings clipped
to be a possession for my passion
to use as i please
to cast aside when i decide
to be slave in my service
in my misguided mind
as a manipulative master
is she not
the radiant moon beam
the ray of sunshine
with no equal in devotion
a bridge across the raging river
a roof under the stormy skies
with no equal in tenderness
is she not
a pillar to lean on
a comforter
a councillor
a divine favour
the girl child
