The Girl Child

born free
like an eagle soaring in the sky
the nest always in sight
unlike a collared falcon bound to it's keeper
patronised only when submissive
spontaneity stifled to serve
was she born
to have her wings clipped
to be a possession for my passion
to use as i please
to cast aside when i decide
to be slave in my service
in my misguided mind
as a manipulative master
is she not
the radiant moon beam
the ray of sunshine
with no equal in devotion
a bridge across the raging river
a roof under the stormy skies
with no equal in tenderness
is she not
a pillar to lean on
a comforter
a councillor
a divine favour
the girl child
