Gareth Farrell Poems

I came to you as you slept
I held your hand and then l wept
l talked to you without reply, l cried and cried
l stayed with you and stroked your hair, you did not wake you didn't stir
...

If your father could say he would want you to know, that with each passing day he watches you grow.

He's there in the morning as you wake and rise, he's there giving cudles and dry crying eyes.
...

I look out from my small confines and see the earth that holds and
binds.
I see the grass that grows so green and dream of places where l've
been.

As You Slept

I came to you as you slept
I held your hand and then l wept
l talked to you without reply, l cried and cried
l stayed with you and stroked your hair, you did not wake you didn't stir
l called on you to wake and rise, but you lay so still, and l cried
Son, you're no longer here but there, it's a burden l cannot bear
We cannot ever talk again, l must evermore endure this pain
No more the torment for my boy, for now in spirit, will give you joy
l'll be with you in a little while, cannot wait to see your smile.
