Stepmother's Message To Her Step Daughter

You are not born out of me,
I've come in your mother's place,
I want to beat my own fate,
unfortunately at your pace.

I have a house but not a home,
I care for you but am afraid to show,
I have a "wicked" image because,
I am the stepmother you know!

I chose to not birth a child,
so that you feel secure,
but you allege that I'm temperamental,
and so very immature.

You forgot I too had dreams,
You forgot I too have a heart,
your relationship with me reached a dead end,
even before I could make a start.

Answer me Oh God,
is it wrong to be a stepmother?
Why does everyone forget her sacrifice,
and treat her like an "outsider? "

Till whenever I live and even when i die,
there will always be this regret;
no matter how hard i tried,
I failed in my life's biggest test.

Thanks to Cinderella and Snow white
for creating the stepmother stereotype,
for giving her negative prefixes,
and damaging her psyche.

Wake up people…dump these fairy tales,
And respect this woman.
Stop treating her like an outsider
in her own domain.
