Hacked And Shorn

Pity
These butchered naked forms
Grudgingly bejeweled
In poor scatterings of ruby and gold
Pity these gnarled, scarred limbs
Their annual mutilation
Summer glory brutally stolen
Stunted, sad standing now
Hacked and shorn
Prematurely
Early hints of red and gold lie strewn amongst
The trampled green
This autumn splendour
Never to be witnessed
On these grey streets
Pity you
Inconvenient leaves

Pity you
