2. Born in Pamel, a village in the Pajottenland of the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant, Van Herreweghen made his debut in 1943 with the collection 'The year of memory'. Together with his peers Anton van Wilderode, Jos De Haes and Christine D'haen, he belongs to the so-called ''occupation generation''.
