Jupiter

I wish I knew
I wish I knew
I wish I knew
My cold hands shake like a storm
shakes a house in the night.
The whole class looks at me,
as if I had just shot a gun.
I wish I knew
I wish I knew
I wish I knew
But, I don't.
I croak out a small whimper, almost out of shear pain.
The clock pounds as I die in my thoughts
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
I sense their eyes
staring a hole through my head.
I hear a faint giggle
coming from the devil, himself.
I take a deep breath to calm myself
But my chest pounds like a timpani.
The teacher calls my name again,
as if I didn't hear it the first time.
I wish I knew
I wish I knew
I wish I knew
The only thing I can do
is answer her question.
Rehearsing it throughout my mind
I finally blurt
'Jupiter! '
She looks to the ground,
then back to my ice grey eyes.
'That would be correct'
I throw my hands in the air
higher than the Empire State Building
as she utters one last remark
'Next time, though, would you speak a little louder? '
All gravity around me suddenly disappears
as I've been ripped out of success.
