How Time Passes

How time passes.
For it can go nowhere else;
Nowhere but to the next moment
Which will pass like a heart's pulse,
Measuring itself against its intent.

Time alone tells
Of its own struggle through the years,
Despite a format so casual, to reveal
Its conception and execution itself offers;
Like a church bell marks with its peal.

There lays a mark!
Just one of many stepping stones
Leading some from one instance to another.
As if to merely count as it comes,
Each moment as it passes and is over.

But some endure.
It falls on them to otherwise sense
An ever expanding gulf that will separate
So many memories made so intense.
So much of life seems incomplete.

So time will pass.
There is no doubt that those who linger
Should not get more or less their share.
But for some whose destiny seems stronger,
Will it always wait until they are there?
