IKECHUKWU FRANCIS IKEBUASO (DON FRANCO) Law Student | Student Leader | Legal Clinician | Writer | Poet | Musician | Public Policy Enthusiast Ikechukwu Francis Ikebuaso, popularly known as Don Franco, is a multifaceted Nigerian young leader, law student, legal clinician, writer, poet, musician and public-policy enthusiast whose interests and activities cut across law, leadership, governance, human rights, technology, sustainable development, business, sports, music and social service. His journey is driven by a strong commitment to justice, equality, intellectual growth, leadership and the desire to make a meaningful contribution to society. Ikechukwu is a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) student at the University of Abuja, where he has built a notable record of involvement in legal education, student governance, practical legal training and community leadership. He is not only pursuing a legal qualification but has consistently sought opportunities to apply legal knowledge through research, advocacy, representation and institutional service. LEADERSHIP AND UNIVERSITY ENGAGEMENT A significant part of Ikechukwu's university experience has been dedicated to leadership and representation. He currently serves as a two-time Senator representing the Faculty of Law in the Student Union Government (SUG) , University of Abuja, where he has participated in student representation and governance. He has also served as Chairman of the Senate Judicial and Legal Affairs Committee, bringing his legal background into student legislative and governance affairs. His leadership experience extends strongly into the legal community of the University of Abuja. He currently serves as Head of Juris Chamber, Faculty of Law, University of Abuja, a chamber formerly known as the Ministry of Justice Chamber. His journey within the Chamber has included serving as Head of Research and Head of Membership, roles through which he contributed to legal research, membership development, advocacy, practical legal education and professional growth among students. His progression to Head of the Chamber represents a continuation of his involvement in practical legal training and student professional development. He has also served in various capacities within the Law Students' Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) , University of Abuja Chapter, including roles such as Principal Liaison Officer and Special Adviser. These experiences have strengthened his abilities in communication, coordination, representation, research and leadership. Within the Catholic Law-student community, Ikechukwu serves as President of the Catholic Law Students Association of Nigeria (CALSAN) , University of Abuja Chapter. His involvement with CALSAN has developed over time, having previously served in roles including Assistant Secretary and Level Coordinator. Through the association, he has combined his legal education with community, faith, service and student development. His interests also extend into taxation and financial affairs through his involvement with the Tax Club, University of Abuja Chapter, where he has served as Financial Secretary. This experience complements his legal education with exposure to taxation, financial administration and commercial interests. LAW, RESEARCH AND PUBLIC POLICY Ikechukwu's interest in law extends beyond classroom learning. He has developed a particular interest in the relationship between law, governance, public policy, human rights and sustainable development. His involvement with the International Institute of SDGs and Public Policy Research (IISPPR) has exposed him to policy research and sustainable-development discussions. He contributed to a collaborative publication examining women's participation in environmental governance, contributing to the introduction and conclusion of the work. His broader interests include legal research, policy implementation, governance, human rights, environmental issues, sustainable development and institutional reform. These interests reflect his desire to understand law not merely as a profession, but as a tool for addressing social and institutional challenges. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND TECHNOLOGY One of the emerging areas of Ikechukwu's professional interest is the intersection between law and technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence, responsible AI and AI policy. Through his engagement with programmes connected to the University of Abuja Law Clinic and AIPOL Fellowship, he has developed exposure to discussions around AI policy, responsible artificial intelligence, policy implementation and the implications of emerging technologies for society. His interest in this field complements his legal background and reflects an awareness that the lawyers of the future will increasingly need to understand technology, data, privacy, cybersecurity and AI regulation.
