Time And Place Of Ice

Snow falls relentlessly, wet and cold;
Owls searching for a meal.
Mice dart about, hunger making them cold;
It's over before they squeal.

Silence grasps the earth with an icy hand;
Many days are without light.
Ice covers the trees, glistening and grand;
Frost stops the rivers' might.

Animals sleep quietly in their dens;
Eventually their flame dies out.
Death lies around every bend,
Of that, there is no doubt.

At this time, ice has come,
And this place is colder for it.
All hope has left with the light of the sun;
Depression grows bit by bit.

But in this time and place of shadow
I have discovered my love
For the frozen ground below
And clouded skies above.
