From The Ground Up
black seed refined from her organs of conception
growing without dread of lethal contraception
tearing through life's gate to inhale
first, the warmth of the air, like a whale
jumping out of the blue ocean wave
he is a young seed brave
a young seed so brave
not one from the age of slaves
but liberated in birth to freedom free
chanting emancipation with glee
from the ground up as a root
of a maroela stem rising its summer fruit
from the ground up with pride
that he is knowledge blissful defined
with ancestral sanction, growing in vigor
and admiration of the beautiful nature
thus through love and philosophy
wisdom he attains gracefully
from the ground up to maturity
assimilating thoughts erecting poetry
as monuments permanently here
and through times there-and-where
slowly gulping the last breath
sighing only before the watchful eye of death
