From Dream To Despair

I open my eyes and see nothing except desolate darkness ahead,
The last dimming light has gone out and all of my hope is dead.
What was once a place of solace reserved for those in love and trust,
Is now a place where I sit alone, to delirium I find myself lost.
As I dolefully look on the days of joy that have long since passed,
I remember our smiles, to those days I cry out, “Come back! ”
We were once friends and lovers, the same as two birds in the sky,
Those memories now overshadowed by the night we fought and cried.
Their malevolent words pierced through my soul like a long jagged pin,
My painful pleas and prayers eventually died out quietly in the wind.
“Is not a man’s heart as delicate as a woman’s? ” I solemnly asked,
“Or is a woman’s heart as delicate as a man’s? ” only silence passed.
Possessed by agony and anger I cried out to Eros, “You liar! ”
But in truth I knew then that love belongs only to desire.
Now as the cold spring passes the summer feels like winter,
Loneliness is my new lover now, its kisses taste grossly bitter.
My aging heart carries only dark ill blood and love that taints,
People say that the worst is over, but I can still feel the pain.
Every day I wake to see a ghost in the reflection of my former self,
This unyielding everlasting pain and suffering not even God can help.
Enslaved to sorrow I slumber as the months turn into years,
This accursed misery has caused me to shed countless tears.
My former love, now lost in the endless labyrinth of time,
Soon I shall take my place alongside the carrion kind.
I’ve heard people say that all in love and life is fair,
But why has my dream turned into despair.
