With waters high up to our docks
We all appear like well-wound clocks,

We cannot see on what we're built-
...

Drifting leaves
in golden shades,
Fall to Earth
as our year fades.
...

Glittering greens
and vibrant hues,
Excited birds
sing the news

A Firm Foundation

With waters high up to our docks
We all appear like well-wound clocks,

We cannot see on what we're built-
On steadfast stone or softened silt.

If we let tides of pride subside,
Our sinful sands no longer hide,

We reveal our shores—we open wide,
We show the hidden underside

Of who we are and what we do,
If we have really followed through.

But if we let the cycle turn,
And show what we think we have earned-

Our sorry sands are hidden up
And all we see is what's on top,

But what's on top is what will falter,
When we are caught with how we palter.

So let your tides of pride subside,
Have no fear of sneer or chide—

Do not hide from peer or foe,
Humbly let your pier's base show

Let your foundation show on through,
Let it attest to all you do.
