An Afternoon Tea

Let us sit and chitter chat over a cuppa tea.
the air’s replete with floral fumes, with fresh-bloomed flowers hung to dry,
and the birds are singing merrily, as billowed clouds roll ‘cross the sky.
sweet zephyr dances through the window and greets us with a kiss
so will you come and be my friend and sit right down with me,
and chitter chat of this and that over a cuppa tea.

a silver teapot, newly polished, waits neatly on its tray,
two brand new cups wait by the sill, cooling in the wind,
i hope that no pesky bees decide to land within.
quick now, lets go and sit and talk, before the sun has run away,
before the moon blotts out the sun, and night replaces day.

Come, sit down, the wickers waiting, the cushions freshly fluffed,
The tea is fine, the needles shine, and the teatime cakes are just sweet enough.
the water’s from the clearest springs, the grapes fresh off the vine,
come, be sat, lets have our chat and before skylights been snuffed.

its getting late, my deary dove, do not you wish to sit?
the day's not over yet my dear, the sun still makes crisp shadows,
but the shadows are long, this day is near done, but i dont think its too late,
the tea-time can still be salvaged, but we must hurry now, real quick.
come and sit down in this chair and rest your feet a bit.

the eve is now upon us dear, and i've now failed in my endear
to get you to come over here, so i could get some closure
but now that time is over.

you missed your chance and thus did lance my heart which now sits draining.
what you don't know, and i tried to not show
is that my time was waning,
and that i leave not tomorrow, but tonight.

but now ive got to go away, to a land so far away.
and when the rays shine day once more,
ill be in another place.
far away from your fair face.
but when i see the morning light,
i’ll think not of love, but of your respite.
and think in spite, i think i might.
of why you had to wait till night to ask me why i wanted
to just sit right down and chitter chat,
and talk of this and talk of that,
just one last time before i had to go so far away.

I'd have liked to sat, just you and me,
to share just one last
cuppa tea.
