Hold Up

They corner me.
Tell me that this is a hold up.
Do not move.
Do not speak.
Give them everything I have.
And I tell them please take everything I have, every single thing that I am to make you more comfortable.
Push me into a box that you have sized just for me so that you can shove it into your basement and forget about me.
Tie me up here and leave me so that I just fade into the background, white noise to smother the silence in your homes.
Then take me as your prisoner and put me on display as an example for anyone else like me.
So that everyone can see what happens to people like me.
Because this is what happens when your identity has been made into an object waiting to be stolen.
This is what happens when you've been deemed impossible, dismissed.
This is what happens when fear turns into erasure.
They've taken everything that I could possibly give, and they only ask for more.
I know that there is no place to go to for help.
Because this is my fault.
They tell me that this is what I chose.
I can only nod because they've taken my voice as well.
Then they take me piece by piece because they've taken the mind that used to hold me together, and suddenly I am gone.
How can this possibly be something that I chose.
