Of Compassion And Ignorance

I knew this girl not long ago

I met her there sitting in a bus

She wasn't that shy but then again

Not as shy as the girl who was offering herself

To the guy she was caressing and sitting on his lap

Laughing at his absurd sexist, sexual jokes

Some didn't even make sense

But she kept laughing and smiling like a crazy person

And the guy didn't have to think much

To reach his own desire with than crazy fun happy teenage girl

The girl I met was much different than her

The crazy one had long wavy hair

She had short brown ginger hair

She didn't laugh that much

All that she let out was a faint forcing smile

In the effort to fit in when everyone was laughing

At the stupid guy's jokes

So I sat beside her in that warm comfortable bus

Introduced myself with a kind encouraging smile

She smiled faintly as I complemented her

I asked her all kinds of questions in that conversational fire

To keep the blaze going for I feared if I didn't

It would die into a horrible awkward moment

I would accompany her to her room

Wish her good night

And lay a quick kiss on her smooth freckled cheek

As she went into her room puzzled from what I have done

The next day on the bus she saved me a seat

I sat there and asked questions again and again

We dined that night with a couple other friends

And I was now only hanging out with her and nobody else

She would save a seat for me everyday now

She would always randomly lunge her head in her fur coat

I'd ask her why « do you do that?  »

And she would answer that she just wanted to disappear

I was confused until I spotted a scar on her right wrist

She said she didn't want to talk about it but I wanted to know

I didn't want to see her everyday still blind to the truths of compassion

I promised I wouldn't judge her on what she was going to tell me

For I knew she feared I would be scared off

And would never want to see her again

I imagine it happened many times before

For her to think so

The truth is religion had crushed her life

Her dad found a new wife who manipulated him

Into a religion freak

The girl is now confused and affected enormously by all this

She goes to talk to her dad once more only to find a raging lion

Who does not accept her for who she is

She is just confused on all this religion stuff

She is in darkness with no light to guide her

Now I feel compassion for this girl

I hug her and kiss her for her to be happy

But I knew she was still crying on the inside

For I cannot fix what had been broken

She feels like she is nothing in society

Doesn't fit in and can't make friends

Well she had some before but they had all left her

To continue a day of ignorance, drugs and alcohol

She feels so depressed and scared

She thinks she could just end it all

She could relieve the pain

By cutting the string of life

Although our distance separates

I will always love her and send texts to her every night

To relieve the pain and motivate her to live another day

Another day with the fights

Another day with frights

Another horrible day in this beautiful world
