I Am From

I am from
A story of black and white
Where everything I do is never right
Yelling and screaming
Pushing and shoving
Crying myself to sleep
I find myself always messing up
Never feeling all grown up
But the fact is
I grew up too fast
I barely have a childhood past
From raising myself
And being there for everyone else
There was no time to play
I am from
Broken memories and lost dreams
Never knowing my father
Always missing my brother
Helping my sisters
Never stop loving my mother
Growing stronger to my daddy
I am from
A small box
Helping others
Never truly helping myself
I am strong
Independent
But weak to the heart
I break down to myself
Always hiding my heart
I let few in
Many turn away
Only some stay
Who truly love me
To them they know the real me
I am from
Hand me down clothes
Food stamp card
I’ve been to shelter
Lived with nothing at all
I’m not rich
But my heart is worth more than money can buy
We’ve been through rough times
But we stay close to the end
My mother is my hero
I’ll love her to the end
She’s my best friend
She’d there when I need her
She’d there when I don’t
I am from
Love and hate
Two rivals from the start
But if you don’t love me for me
There’s no way I’m changing
I was raised to be myself
To be strong
I am from no regret
I wouldn’t change my life
My life made me who I am
Even though it was rough
And lots of tears
My mom raised me right
And I’m forever thankful
I will keep growing strong.
