Two Sides Of My River

Her flowing stream and cowslip banks
Do call the dreamer to behold
The ancient beauty of her flanks
All buttercups and green and gold

She calls young lovers to her side
With summer sun and sky azure
To paddle in her glittering light
And hear the distant weir roar

Come twilight then she changes mood
To darkness now the evening draws
And with the night she thinks of food
Flexing her many distant claws

She casts a wandering baleful eye
For careless dreamers may have come
Her cold grey arms then pull them down
Into her cold and heartless tomb

So when with careless tread you step
Along the riverbank so bright
Beware when twilight comes along
For it is then she'll choose to bite.
