John Warrington Poems

What are you waiting for,
You, with the sad eyes?
To say a scornful goodbye to the cruellest winter storm?
With the hope that it carries away the sins of the malformed?
...

It was a ‘eureka moment’.
Driving for miles and miles in the throttling, demonic dark.
And alas, it was a night off for an old friend called moonlight.
Not sure where I was, nor certain even where I wanted to go,

You With The Sad Eyes

What are you waiting for,
You, with the sad eyes?
To say a scornful goodbye to the cruellest winter storm?
With the hope that it carries away the sins of the malformed?
And what will you do when you feel the first breeze of summer?
Will it gently blow-dry your tears of lost hope, I plundered?
Will you plant the seeds of our past, and let them be nourished?
Will they be allowed to bloom, when the sun’s at its warmest?
Or will you pull out the roots and seed something new?
Then worry if the shadows make for new growth too soon?

What are you looking for,
You with the sad eyes?
A knight in shining armour, to make your heart smile?
But just how impenetrable is a suit of steel?
How will you know for sure what you see is for real?
Or shall I show you a man of hope and faith?
Who knows how to repent, who knows how you ache.
What are you looking for, you with the sad eyes?
If it’s a man without fault,
You’ll be looking a long while.

Who are you listening to,
You with the sad eyes?
The voices of caution who see only white and black,
Not the spectrum of colour that beckons me back.
Listen first to he who loves you the best,
Put your heart at his mercy and he'll put your pain to rest.
Look into his eyes as he opens up to speak,
His words or remorse and see how his pain runs deep.
Who knows you better, you with the sad eyes?
Who loves you already? Who will love you til he dies?

For Sandra, with my undying hope.
