John Zeller Poems

The darkness shines through in pain
With reflections sold to tomorrow
The curtains are stained with time
But not enough for me to borrow
...

I allowed my soul to jump among crickets
I allowed crickets to jump upon my soul
Sitting under a broken oak by marsh and thicket
My non-existing mind wondered to and fro
...

Take a little sunshine and hold it in your hands
Find someone not smiling and show them that they can
Let them hold your sunshine to brighten up their day
There’s enough sunshine for everyone to find along the way.
...

Walking through the city under frozen neon lights
Guided by an angel on a cold winters night
Darkness on the outskirts of a city without time
The winters biting cold cutting through my icy spine
...

I draw my sword to slice open the sky
Stars pouring in then pushing the tides
I'm on the edge, starlight running over my feet
Arms spread wide not a question of defeat
...

Scratch my eyes out with your politics
Tear at my intestines with your religion
I'm spitting blood are you happy now?
...

And I don't hear from anybody
and nobody hears from me
quiet desperation taking form
I alone on the sea
...

We can walk with rainbows along the river side,
Sit in the shade holding each other by the rising tide.
Lie on our backs and stare up into the trees,
Watch the branches sway tangled on the breeze.
...

A women stood by the window
in her newly bought calico dress
barefooted she stood and shivered
as the wind blew against her breasts
...

I don't speak sewer rat, stray cat
or gerbil just the same
a parrot tried teaching me Russian
his efforts all in vein
...

Jump into a raindrop
from the sunny side,
It’s really quite simple
and a peaceful kind of ride,
...

The dishes are piled up in the bathtub,
she says she wants to take a shower.
She sends me out for a walk,
and says dinner will be in an hour.
...

the night drags a plow
turning over sunlight
babies howl for breast
thirsty in the midnight
...

Life is like a picket fence
Has a beginning and an end
Neighbour’s to your left
Neighbour’s to your right
...

blue sky resting on my shoulders
rose petals covered with dew
dew drops hanging from eternity
above thorns without a clue
...

eagles soar over my dreams
so I guess my dreams are still within reach
my dreams are all in a cup
and my cup spills over onto your beach
...

laughing bears hunting pachyderm with
water balloons on the island of sweet sorrows
as I sit picnicking under a palm tree with a parrot
and a panda watching a Sisyphean fiasco
...

Small child
Staring at me
Talking about me
Admiring my haircut
...

I trapped a hurricane
in a windsock and a
thunderstorm got loose
rain and wind pourin' in
...

rain notes falling
notes of falling rain
falling through the skylight
notes of falling pain
...

The Best Poem Of John Zeller

My Back Door

The darkness shines through in pain
With reflections sold to tomorrow
The curtains are stained with time
But not enough for me to borrow

Life rushes by my window
But I refuse to peer outside
I'm scared of the gathering masses
Like a coward I choose to hide

Their words are stones of anger
Their reasons gestures of love
Their interests gullible confusion
That I must transcend above

I slip on out the back door
My head so high from smoking tea
I have a feeling of paranoia
Oh my! are they watching me?

I end up down at the crossroads
There alone stands one tree
The pain shines through the darkness
The branches beckon for me

The wind it blows from everywhere
As if it somehow pursued me here
A child appears from behind the tree
And begs me to follow near

But I turn and flee to the crossroads
Where the darkness will rescue me
At a moment of indecision
My body flies against the tree

The smell of burnt rubber I recall faintly
The taste of blood as never before
The grand finale of my freedom
The le premier pas my backdoor
