I get closer to heaven with every passing day.

I left the big city life behind,
Hoping for a new life I could find.

I know I could never take your dad's place,

But that doesn't make me any less of a man.
I don't sit in a deer stand waiting for the kill,
There has to be a better way to find a thrill.

I'm stranded and lost after my car broke down,
I'm on the outskirts of a strange, small town.
I walked up to a house hoping to make a call;
I knocked on the door as the rain started to fall.

The leather jacket made her look like a biker,
She had her thumb sticking out like a hitch hiker.
Who knows what she was doing walking way out there,
I couldn't just leave her in the middle of no where.

The multiple colors blend in as one,
As they mask the disappearing sun.
Slowly I watch as it drifts away,
It's marking the end of another day.

If I feel that I have hit rock bottom,
I will find a way back to the top.
When it feels like I can’t keep going,
That’s when I know that I can’t stop.

As we look into the future,
It’s a long and uncertain road.
And as we travel it together,
We may burden a heavy load.

As you softly kiss my lips,
It sends a tremble to my knees.
