Even in the country of Gabriel García Márquez and Álvaro Mutis, Juan Manuel Roca is really a someone: he has developed into a new national celebrity, with the Universidad del Valle bestowing on him the title of Doctor Honoris Causa.
Juan Manuel Roca was born in Medellín on December 29,1946. He spent his childhood in Mexico and later in Paris. During the years 1988 to 1999 he coordinated the Sunday Magazine of El Espectador, a cultural booklet with which a generation was practically formed, since a good number of poems were published in it.
