Juan Manuel Roca Comments

Juan Manuel Roca (born in Medellín,1946 - then he left the town of his birth to live in Bogotá) is a Colombian poet, essayist, prose writer and journalist, occasionally included among the “disillusioned generation” of Colombian writers who made their debut in the 1970s.

Even in the country of Gabriel García Márquez and Álvaro Mutis, Juan Manuel Roca is really a someone: he has developed into a new national celebrity, with the Universidad del Valle bestowing on him the title of Doctor Honoris Causa.

Juan Manuel Roca was born in Medellín on December 29,1946. He spent his childhood in Mexico and later in Paris. During the years 1988 to 1999 he coordinated the Sunday Magazine of El Espectador, a cultural booklet with which a generation was practically formed, since a good number of poems were published in it.

Juan Manuel Roca es un poeta y narrador colombiano, nació en Medellín el 29 de diciembre de 1946. Transcurre su infancia en México y posteriormente en París. Durante los años 1988 a 1999 coordinó el Magazín Dominical de El Espectador, separata cultural con la que se formó prácticamente una generación, pues en ésta se publicaron un buen número de poemas.
