Sandy Hook Angels

The sun came up
Lit their days alive,
Their rosy cheeks kissed
In the winter cheer delight.
Futures bright, many dreams in sight.
Off to school they went with America's future in palm,
Innocence of Santa and elfs held in their hearts.

Oh it just isn't right-
A nightmare in the day's bright eyes.
And so America,
We cry.
Cry for twenty little lives that took angel flight-

Their big dreams stared straight in a gun barrel's dark eye.
To this we cry.
Well just maybe they are up there in Heaven,
Full of Christmas cheer.
Decorating the clouds and stars with ribbons and bows,
Patiently waiting for Santa to bring every wish they hold.

I say to myself, 'God, where are you? '
I find no reply.
I think he may just be busy up there,
Holding children tight -
In fear of our future here on earth,
For what has Man become?
Something of undone.

I look to the stars
They twinkle bright up here in these mountains.
I send them a wish-
May the twenty little children that took angel flight
Have no more fear.
May they rest in God's arms
Where dreams come true,
And Peace and Love are the truest of true.
