Kate Benjamin Poems

When sleep eludes me and
Times of peace and
Thoughts surround my soul
My heart it whispers songs
...

I have this disease of which I feel I'll never recover
It's consumed me
My heart
My love
...

In a hole
Getting out
Stuck and spiraling
What do I cling to
...

Eludes Me

When sleep eludes me and
Times of peace and
Thoughts surround my soul
My heart it whispers songs
Of sadness
Songs when I was whole
But chains they hold me
Suspense and torture
That heart once full of light
Of memories sadly aching
Towards me calling me to night
The hand that catches
Every pulse and beat in
Record time
That hand that holds me
Sadly watching leaving me behind
Visions haunting beneath
Closed eyes
Closed minds and open doors
Waves of turmoil anticipation
Leading to their shores
The empty ocean dried and
Cold and lost before
It's gone
The well of tears that fill it up
And wonders of moving on
It has no space no place
Just wanders lingers
At my feet
Spirals of despair are forming
Rendering defeat
My eyes look towards
The blank horizon
Gasping as it shows
It's inability it's incompleteness
Fills me as it goes
This song has played its
Melancholy tune within
My heart
This song sweetly draws me
Towards the center towards
The start
And once again the blanket
Wraps my soul in
Bitter song
I wander towards the
Raging waters
Until its pulse is gone
Just the rhythmic ghostly
Tune of torture and lament
Pulling dragging urging
Pleading
It still does not relent
And sleep eludes me and
Times of peace become once
More unknown
Grabbing at this bitter blanket
Chills me to the bone.
